ENGR 111: Intro to Engineering
Credits 4ENGR 224: Art Meets Engineering
Credits 4This course invites students to investigate how form influences function and vice versa in both art and engineering.
Learn techniques such as hand-forging metal, 3D printing, and laser-cutting to develop innovative solutions to design
challenges. Course culminates in a public project.
ENGR 251: Socially Responsible Engineering
Credits 3Socially Responsible Engineering will investigate the ethical challenges in engineering projects from both a technical and social perspective. Through the use of case studies, ethical decisions made by engineers and other technical specialists will be investigated and discussion will be had around the impact on the communities where these projects are built.
ENGR 270: Engineering Mechanics
Credits 4Engineering Mechanics provides the basic concepts and skills that will apply the laws of classical mechanics to
simplified, plausibly real world problems. This problem-focused class will analyze forces on structures, machines and
mechanisms with the intention of helping students predict behavior.
ENGR 290: Mass and Heat Transfer
Credits 4This course will introduce students to the basic understanding of mass and heat transfer processes and their
application to engineering design problems. This course will utilize real-world problems involving conduction,
convection, mass transfer, heat exchangers, and radiation.
ENGR 301: Introduction to Geotechnical Engineering
Credits 4Geotechnical engineering focuses on the use of earth materials in engineered systems such as foundations, embankments, slopes, and retaining walls. Students learn to characterize soils, analyze their engineering behavior, and apply this knowledge to the design of earth structures used in construction and urban planning. The course emphasizes the integration of laboratory testing, theoretical principles, and real-world applications through labs, weekly quizzes, and a semester-long design project.
ENGR 304: Sustainable Engineering
Credits 3Students will explore the application of sustainability to engineering practice. Topics covered will include the social, economic, and environmental pillars of sustainability; biogeochemical cycles, energy management, and life cycle analysis. Students will develop solutions to an engineering problem and evaluate their solutions for sustainability.
ENGR 305: Strength of Materials
Credits 4This course will introduce students to the fundamental principles of the strength of materials and their application to engineering design. Topics will include stress, strain, torsion, bending, shear, and axial loading, with real-world applications in structural analysis, mechanical components, and failure criteria.
ENGR 306: Engineering Thermodynamics
Credits 4This course provides a study of the primary laws of thermodynamics. This course will examine thermodynamic properties, conservation of mass and energy, entropy and analysis of the second law of thermodynamics and how these principles impact engineering designs. This course will look at these properties and how that impacts things like power, refrigeration, car engines, pump systems, vapor cycles and gas cycles.
ENGR 350: Electronics & Instrumentation
Credits 4This is a laboratory-oriented course dealing with analog and digital circuits. Circuit theory is developed for diodes, transistors, operational amplifiers and integrated circuits. These components are used to construct a range of devices, including power supplies, oscillators, amplifiers and logic circuits. Laboratory work will allow students to gain an operational understanding of these basic concepts. Skills debugging, circuit building, and reading circuit diagrams will be stressed. Lab.
ENGR 374: Engineering Fluid Mechanics
Credits 4Fluid Mechanics provides a study of the properties of fluids and their behavior. This problem-focused class will analyze continuity, momentum, and energy principles of fluid flow with the intention of helping students to apply that knowledge to designing functional fluid systems.
ENGR 382: Advanced Topics
Credits 4ENGR 450: Introduction to Control Systems
Credits 3This course introduces the mathematical basis of linear-time invariant systems using block diagrams, Laplace transforms, and transfer functions. Students will learn about methods to quantify and manipulate transients and damping, steady state operation, and stability of systems.
ENGR 487: Senior Capstone A
Credits 2ENGR 487: Senior Capstone A
Credits 3This course is the first-part of a cumulative capstone. Students will develop solutions to an engineering problem. Students will consider ethical, economic, and social aspects of engineering design. They will also learn about the application of engineering standards, systems engineering concepts, and safety issues relevant to engineering design. By the end of the course, students will have developed and performed a preliminary analysis of several engineering solutions.
ENGR 488: Senior Capstone
Credits 2This course is a continuation of the capstone experience from ENGR 487. The students will develop and finalize documentation around the selected design. This focus will be on examining several aspects of the design: possible failure modes, safety, reliability, and manufacturability. Students will examine the economic, environmental, social, and ethical impacts of their designs. Finally, they will develop a testing plan and a planned operations manual.
ENGR 488: Senior Capstone B
Credits 3PHYS 487: Senior Capstone A
Credits 3This course is the first-part of a cumulative capstone.
