Earlham’s accounting program pairs the specialized expertise and skills you’ll need to pursue a career in accounting with the broad perspective of a human-centered liberal arts education. From auditing and work in the nonprofit sector to pursuing the CPA exam, you’ll graduate ready for a wide variety of career opportunities.
Because this major is interdisciplinary and fully integrated within our Department of Business, you’ll have the opportunity to take courses in business, economics and computer science in addition to accounting courses as you fulfill your major requirements. Our focus on global engagement and the ethics of business will prepare you to make a profound difference in the world—both as a student and in your professional life.
To earn a Bachelor of Arts in accounting, you must complete the following courses, in addition to general education requirements.
You are encouraged to begin the major during your first or second year. This provides flexibility in your schedule to participate in an off-campus program and to develop professional networks among other students in the program.

Note: Students interested in becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) will need to take four additional courses in BUS, CS, or ECON in order to sit for the CPA Exam.

Students who major in accounting can enter careers as corporate accountants, financial analysts, business consultants or staff accountants at a public accounting firm. Students can also pursue advanced degrees in accounting (MAcc), business administration (MBA) and related fields.

Students who are interested in public accounting are able to structure their major to meet the educational requirements for taking the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam in Indiana or Ohio (with an additional 30 credit hours needed after graduation in order to obtain a CPA license in these states).
