This course will explore the dynamic interplay between race, gender, and identity through the lens of Black women’s experiences across five pivotal phases of Black nationality formation in the United States, as articulated by Komozi Woodard: Slavery, the Pre-Civil War era, the Jim Crow era, the Great Migration, and the Black migration from 1940 to 1970.
