School of Record

A School of Record (SOR) is an institution accredited in the United States that officially documents and awards credits for courses taken abroad with programs that are not accredited in the U.S. The SOR provides oversight of the academic process and verify the academic integrity of the courses offered.

In accordance with the Forum on Education Abroad’s Guidance on School of Record Relationships for Education Abroad, Earlham College serves as School of Record for the School of Extension Education, Soochow University, Taiwan (SU/SEESU). In addition to maintaining the permanent records of students, Earlham College reviews syllabi and faculty qualifications to ensure academic quality and that the courses are taught by qualified instructors consistent with the level of education at U.S. universities. Earlham courses are used as the default course offerings by SU/SEESU and any new courses have been reviewed and approved by Earlham’s Curricular Policy Committee.

As the School of Record, Earlham College generates an official College transcript to be sent to the student's home institution at the end of the program including the study abroad coursework for all enrolled students who complete courses in this program. Grades are sent from SU/SEESU within three weeks after completion of the term in which the students enrolled, and the transcripting process may take up to, but no longer than, two weeks after the Registrar’s Office has received the study abroad grades. Official transcripts are available through the National Student Clearinghouse within two weeks after the students’ grades are received for students seeking additional transcripts. Standard transcript fees apply.  Students are responsible for verifying with the registrar at their home institution that the course(s) completed through this program will transfer back to their primary institution.

Earlham College is accredited through the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) to award bachelors and master’s degrees. Earlham consistently ranks among U.S. News and World Report’s top national liberal arts institutions, and has one of the nation’s best classroom experiences, according to The Princeton Review.
